engravings aLost Arkare another in-game upgrade system that allows players to further improve certain stats of their character to suit their playstyle. There are different types of engraving, with many more to choose from in each category. Investing in these engravings becomes essential once players reach the endgame in order to keep up with the challenges ahead.
In this guide, we're going to take a look at the engraving system and learn how to get the most out of it on your character.
What are engravings in Lost Ark?
Engravings give different types of effects that help improve certain aspects of your character in Lost Ark. Most of them give buffs and bonuses instantly or when certain conditions are met, while some offer other features. These engravings can be further upgraded to have a higher impact, and they are also divided into combat bonuses and class bonuses.
Lost Ark Combat Boni Engravings Complete List
Combat bonuses offer different types of bonuses and are roster-wide, meaning all your characters within your server's roster can use the same engravings that have been unlocked or upgraded. There are currently 43 Combat Bonus Engravings in total:
- Adrenalin– After using a skill, you will get attack power and crit rate bonus
- All Out Attack– +Hold and Cast Speed, +Damage
- awakening– Lower Awakening skill cooldown, +1 max usage
- barricade– +Damage to enemies while shielded
- broken bone– +Damage to staggered enemies
- candidate– + attack power after killing an enemy
- crisis avoidance– Taking fatal damage will make you invincible. 50% of damage during this period is gained as HP
- Crushing Fist– On a successful counterattack, +Attack Power, the enemy takes bonus damage from all sources for 3 seconds
- Damn doll– +Attack Power, +Healing
- disrespect– + Damage to enemies with <30% HP
- divine protection– Chance of a damage reduction buff
- drops of ether– Chance to generate Ether from attacks
- emergency rescue– Gain shield when HP drops <30%, gain remaining shield as HP if not broken
- Improved Shield- Gain immunity to all debuffs, -90% Shield HP and Defensive Stance
- Ether Predator– Gain Ether from Attacks, Stack + Attack Power and Defense per Ether collected
- expert– +Shield and Heal Effectiveness, +Effectiveness as a party member is <50% HP
- Explosives Expert- + Limit for carrying bomb/grenade combat items
- Kraft– Incoming damage is reduced in proportion to HP loss
- resentment– +Damage to Boss, +Incoming Damage
- Heavy armor– +Total Defense
- blow Meister– +Damage from hits other than front/back
- increase mass– -Attack Speed, +Attack Power
- Maximum MP increase– +Max MP

- Blitzwut– Changed the generation of lightning balls, balls explode at 5 stacks

How to use engravings in Lost Ark
You can use Engravings in Lost Ark by completing the Power Node requirement to activate it. Power Nodes can be found on certain accessories, ability stones, and on the respective engraving effect bonuses you've learned.
Each Engraving has three layers that require at least five nodes per layer to activate. Equipping the accessories, ability stones, and effect bonuses that have power nodes under the same Engrave effect will help you unlock the higher tiers of that effect.
Engraving effects from accessories
Once you reach item level 302, you can wear accessories that contain effect bonuses. These accessories can be obtained as rewards from Chaos Dungeons or Guardian Raids, or exchanged for shards that you get from those dungeons.
These accessories have random engraving effects and depending on their rarity you can get two or more effects or even higher level effects. Note that accessories will also have negative effects on them.
Both positive and negative effects cannot be changed on an accessory. So, to mitigate the negative effects, you need to avoid finding another accessory with the effects you want, but one that doesn't add a knot to the negative effect you want.
Engraving Effects of Skill Stones
Ability Stones are another source of engraving effects. These stones must undergo what is called a mechanicfacetin which the effects inherent in the stone can be enhanced.
These stones can also be obtained in Chaos Dungeons, Guardian Raids or Abyssal Dungeons. While these stones cannot be equipped while they are still unfaceted, you can already see what effects the stone has. Similar to accessories, ability stones also have negative effects.
Faceting Skill Stones
Faceting ability stones in Lost Ark can be thought of as a mini-game, where you "cut" the stone to increase the effect. You can go to an Ability Stone Cutter NPC in any major city for this. Not every cut is a guaranteed success; The maximum success rate per attempt is 75%.
If a cut succeeds, add a knot to that chosen effect and the next attempt's success rate drops by 10%. Otherwise, the node slot is wasted on the effect, but the success rate of the next attempt increases by 10% (maximum 75%).
There are only limited trial spaces per stone, which increase as the quality increases. Once all slots have been used, including negative slots, the stone is considered fully faceted and can then be equipped. Any successful nodes will then add to your engraving effects once the stone is equipped.
The basic strategy in faceting is to reduce the desired effect when the success rate is high, and then reduce the negative effect once the rate is low. Here is a general guide:
- 75% - Most wanted positive effect
- 55%-65% - Second positive effect
- <45% - Negative effect
You can decide to follow this guide or follow your own gut feeling when faceting - after all, it's a gamble.
Learn engraving effects in Lost Ark
You can also learn engraving effects from books, or "recipes" as they're called in-game. You can get these recipes from Engraving Bags (Combat Bonuses) or Engraving Chests (Class Bonuses). On the other hand, these bags and chests are usually given as quest rewards from main and side quests as well as from entering the dungeons.
Each engraving effect requires you to read 20 copies per level, ranging from Uncommon to Legendary. Each completed stage gives you more nodes for the effect:
- Occasional - 3 knots
- Rare - 6 knots
- Epic - 9 knots
- Legendary - 12 knots
You have two slots that you can use to equip a learned Engrave effect (uncommon at least), in which you can either place two different types of effects or equip the same effect on both slots at the same time, effectively doubling the amount of nodes you have received for a specific effect.
For example: You want to go for the Lightning Fury effect and you currently have it on the Rare tier. You can equip it on either slot, giving you a level 2 Lightning Fury effect (6 nodes x 2 = 12 nodes; level 2 requires 10 nodes). Alternatively, you can upgrade the effect to legendary level, which will give you the same effect, but it only takes up 1 slot.
Notes and Tips on the Lost Ark Engravings
- Engraving recipes can also be bought from the Market (Alt + Y), but it can get expensive as these require gold and the higher tier recipes quickly skyrocket in price.
- It's best to focus on an Engrave effect first and get it to at least Rare tier. You can then simply equip it twice to get its Tier 2 effect. As you progress, you'll get more materials to upgrade your engravings, which will help you move on to other effects.
- Skill Stones give additional Vitality depending on the number of successful Nodes, which is a great source of HP Boost.
- If you find an ability stone or accessory not useful in your build, dismantle them instead of selling them. You can get materials that you can trade for more stones or materials useful for honing gears.
